HARVEY COTÉ GALLERY

Harvey Coté is a graduate of the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and the retired Art Director of a public company. Since the early 1970's Harvey has been exploring The Town of Arlington’s Great Meadows, located in east Lexington, MA. Through his artist’s eye as well as his patience and vigilance, Harvey has been recording the details and abstract qualities of this treasured resource. As Emerson wrote in his journal "Every natural form to the smallest, a leaf, a sunbeam, a moment of time, a drop, is related to the whole, and partakes of the beauty of the whole". Emerson noted that Thoreau was celebrated for his unique ability to perceive the landscape both as a picture and as a process. Both Emerson and Thoreau recognized a natural landscape as "a body [that] has a spirit, is organic, and fluid to the influence of its spirit".

Harvey Coté has looked at the Great Meadows, the coastline of New England and other landscapes with the eye of an artist. He has captured the spirit and fluidity of meadows, woods, coastlines and other natural landscapes in his stunning photographs. "I find that photographing meadow grass, wildflowers, rocks, and other forms in their ordered patterns can become magical as light changes."

Coté's photographs have been exhibited at The Cape Cod Center for the Arts; St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana; Habitat, Belmont, MA; Weston Public Library, Weston, MA; Jefferson Cutter House and Arlington Town Hall, Arlington, MA; Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts, Concord; Tsongas Gallery at Walden Pond State Reservation; Piper Gallery, Cary Memorial Library, Lexington; and the Massachusetts State House, Boston, MA. Individual prints have been exhibited at the Library Arts Center, Newport, New Hampshire; the Cambridge Art Association Gallery, Cambridge, MA; the Arthur Griffin Gallery, Winchester, MA.
